A Message from Chairman PVTC

According to the latest statistics, 30 million youth between the ages of 15-29 years form 30% of the Punjab population, out of which 15 million youth is unemployed and Government alone cannot resolve this problem. We believe that public private partnership is the only solution, with a clear vision and a roadmap to eradicate unemployment and poverty from our society.

PVTC has incorporated social entrepreneurship and service learning in the curriculum of all its Vocational Training Institutes. PVTC has become the first organization in the country which has launched social entrepreneurship and service learning course for transforming disadvantaged youth from victims to social entrepreneurs. PVTC has accomplished this milestone with the support of Youth Engagement Services (YES) Network Pakistan. YES Network Pakistan is a national leader in the field of service learning and youth social entrepreneurship in Pakistan.

The youth social entrepreneurship course is designed not only to engage students in solving social problems of their communities in an organized manner, but also for helping them to build a better future for themselves. Young people will be learning to take control of their lives at an early age. And instead of repeating history, they will make their own history by paving new paths in their circle of life, leaving behind doubt and the fact that ending up in a well-paid job is the only way forward in life: they will actually CREATE jobs and become the boss of their life.

The duration of social entrepreneurship and service learning course is fifty hours. This includes 10 hours of actual class work to assist participants to get familiarized with the concept of youth social entrepreneurship and the process of development of a social enterprise plan and 40 hours of field work to serve the society. The mark allocation of the course is based on the attendance (10%), unscheduled quizzes (10%), field work (50%) and presentation of field work by the participants (30%). All the students of the PVTC are now being engaged in designing and implementing innovative community-based service learning project to make a difference in the lives of other.

The core objective of this partnership is to provide an opportunity to the principals, teachers and students of PVTC to acquire knowledge, skills and information to plan, implement and evaluate Youth Social Entrepreneurship Projects. The students of VTIs through this program will get an opportunity to work in the field in order to gain practical experience including report writing. The graduates of PVTC will have an opportunity to get introduced and implement a social entrepreneurship program which is being implemented for the first time in Pakistan at such a large scale.

PVTC will facilitate its students to gain a recognized qualification in social entrepreneurship to establish their own social enterprise to serve and earn at the same time and will also help them for their permanent rehabilitation.

I am thankful to the management of YES network Pakistan for providing a great opportunity for the students of PVTC to become a social Entrepreneur. I am hopeful that collaboration between PVTC and YES network Pakistan will go a long way in our common endeavor of poverty alleviation.
